How to Boot a Mac From an IPod

You're having issues with your Mac and it will not boot on its own. If you have an iPod handy you can boot your Mac from your iPod. The iPod is also useful for those of you who want to run several operating systems without having to install them on your Mac's hard drive. Just follow these instructions and you can boot your Mac from an iPod.

Instructions

Plug an iPod into your Mac. Find the "Utilities" folder and open "Disk Utility." Click the iPod icon on the left side of the screen and then select "Erase" on the right side.

    • 2

Click on "Mac OS Extended" and give the drive a name. Select "Erase." Exit the "Disk Utility."

    • 3

Insert the operating system disc into the Mac CD drive and start the installation. Select the drive you made on the iPod. This procedure installs the operating system on to the erased iPod.
