Easter is the time of the year to color eggs, have an Easter egg hunt and exchange Easter baskets full of chocolate rabbits and peeps. For many, Easter is also the time of year to recognize an important religious event. However you choose to celebrate Easter in your family, your kids may come up with some interesting questions regarding this particular holiday. It helps to be prepared with answers to the inevitable questions from curious kids.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider your family values and religious faith. Emphasize to your kids when answering questions the aspects of the Easter holiday that are most important to you. If you are a Christian, for example, and your kids ask about why we celebrate Easter, focus on the fact that Easter is a commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ after he was crucified on the cross.

  2. Step 2

Learn the religious history of Easter in anticipation of certain questions. Kids often ask how Easter got its name. Explain that a long, long time ago in England, people celebrated the coming of spring with a festival. This celebration was in honor of the goddess of spring, named Eastre. Christian missionaries came to England and wanted these people to accept Christianity as their own religion. The missionaries decided to call the commemoration of Christ's resurrection Easter because the date was so close to the spring festival, and it made the acceptance of Christianity more comfortable for the people.

  3. Step 3

Prepare for Easter bunny questions. A common question asked by kids is "Is the Easter bunny real?" One response could be that the Easter bunny is a myth shared by many people for many years. Base your own response on your family values and traditions.

  4. Step 4

Have age-appropriate videos and books readily available. Check out holiday books from the library and read them together or watch videos with Easter themes together. A popular movie to watch at Easter time is "The Passion of the Christ," but it is not appropriate for young children. Discuss with your kids what is learned from the books and videos.
