In many cases, cell phones have turned people into rude non-connective human beings. Text messaging, email, Internet--cell phone capabilities are amazing, however, many people have forgotten their manners when they use cell phones. Here are some ways you can avoid being rude while using a cell phone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be aware. Don't stay on the phone and ignore someone waiting to talk to you.

  2. Step 2

Take a call only if it won't interrupt. Generally, don't accept calls during lunch, dinner, a movie or even a date.

  3. Step 3

Forewarn others that you might receive and important call. Avoiding calls is sometimes impossible. It may be "the call" you have been waiting for all day, or it could be your child. Show some consideration to your guests and let them know about the call beforehand.

  4. Step 4

Excuse yourself if you must take a call. People tend to talk louder when they are on the phone, so your phone conversation could drown out the conversation of those around you.

  5. Step 5

Carry on one conversation at a time. Don't attempt to talk on the phone and with another person simultaneously.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't forget voice mail. Allow calls to go to voice mail rather than allowing the call to interrupt others.
  • Don't drive and talk on the cell phone. If you must take the call, stop the car and talk, but don't try to negotiate traffic with only one hand on the wheel.
