How to Lay a Path Through a Garden

No need to pay someone to lay a path through the garden. All you need is a little imagination, some elbow grease and strong legs to lift those stepping stones for the path. Laying your own garden path can be fun and rewarding. Every time you walk on it, you know that it was put there by your own two hands.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Select the layout and design (or purpose) of the garden path.
Step2
Choose the look for the new garden path. You need to select large stepping stones that will be walked on, and then pick out the gravel that will surround it.
Step3
Dig out the grass and the top layer of soil to create the path. Dig down at least an inch or two.
Step4
Line the dirt path with some sort of plastic lining to prevent weeds or grass from growing in the path.
Step5
Place a permanent border down each side of the dirt path.
Step6
Poor sand onto the plastic liner to serve as the foundation.
Step7
Place the stepping stones. Walk the path as you place them, making sure they aren't too far apart or too close together.
Step8
Pour the smaller gravel around the stepping stones to ensure their security and placement.
