If you suffer from occasional or chronic back pain, you understand how important it is to find some type of relief. If your back pain is not severe enough to contact a doctor, consider using these home remedies to treat it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Sleep with a pillow between your knees when sleeping on your side. This can alleviate the pain.
Step2
Lay on the floor with your knees bent and your feet resting on a chair. This removes pressure and takes weight off of your back.
Step3
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Ibuprofen, naproxen or acetaminophen can be taken occasionally to help deal with back pain.
Step4
Put some heat on your back. Use a heating pad on a low or medium setting to help reduce the discomfort associated with back pain. Keep the heat on the pain site for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Step5
Use an ice pack. Ice has also been shown to provide back pain relief. Keep the ice on the back for 5 to 10 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contact a doctor if the back pain continues without any relief.
  • Avoid exercises or heavy lifting that will put additional strain on your back and worsen the condition.
  • Don't take pain relievers consistently to deal with back pain. This can lead to ulcers.
