How to Create a Springtime Window Box Centerpiece

Nothing says springtime like a window box brimming with fresh flowers and vibrant green grass. Bring springtime into your dining room with a creative and easy-to-make window box centerpiece. Using simple craft supplies and fresh flowers, you can create a beautiful floral arrangement perfect for Sunday dinner.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Florist foam
  • Water

    Prepare the Window Box

  1. Step 1

    Purchase a plastic flower box between 12 and 36 inches long.

  2. Step 2

    Using a spray paint that coordinates with your dining room decor, ans paint the box with two coats of paint.

  3. Step 3

    Let the paint dry overnight before making the centerpiece.

  4. Visit the Florist

  5. Step 1

    Visit your local florist or nursery to purchase fresh flowers and wheat grass.

  6. Step 2

    Select springtime blossoms, such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and lilacs.

  7. Step 3

    Ask the florist for a layer of wheat grass (also called Easter grass) to layer inside the windowbox.

  8. Arrange the Flowers

  9. Step 1

    Cut a block of wet florist foam (available at florist shops or craft stores) the length of your window box. It should sit approximately 1/4 inch above the rim of the window box.

  10. Step 2

    Soak the foam in water for thirty minutes.

  11. Step 3

    Cut the flower stems between five and eight inches long.

  12. Step 4

    Place the soaked foam inside the window box, and cover it with the wheat grass.

  13. Step 5

    Insert the flower stems through the grass, into the foam. Arrange the flowers randomly, for a natural look.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more coordinated look to your tablescape, select flowers that match your china and dishes.
  • When using spray paint, work in a well ventilated area (preferably outside).
