Dry skin can be severe or it can be minor. No matter what area of the spectrum your skin is categorized, finding a moisturizer for all-over body moisture or for certain areas can be difficult. Here are some things to remember when trying to find a moisturizer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Protect your skin, oily or dry. If you don't normally use a sunscreen when venturing outdoors, use a moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15 every day. These are easy to find and will help protect you from harmful UV rays.

  2. Step 2

Face the ingredients. When you are looking for a moisturizer for your face, make sure you choose one that is noncomedogenic. This means that it won't clog your pores.

  3. Step 3

Determine your needs. Dry skin will need oils or glycerine, while oily skin will require oil-free products.

  4. Step 4

Test the products. Unless you have to buy moisturizer online, go into the store and try out products for yourself. You are looking for a scent that you like, a moisturizer that does not irritate your skin and one that doesn't feel too oily.

  5. Step 5

Change with the seasons. In the summer, when you may sweat most of your moisture off, use a lighter moisturizer. When the heaters dry out your skin in the winter, you may need something heavier.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't spend too much money. Unless you have a dry skin problem that requires a certain, pricey ingredient, there are effective, inexpensive moisturizers sold in drug stores and local shops.
  • Don't overmoisturize. After washing your hands, moisturize, but unless you have severely dry skin that requires daily moisturizing, a little goes a long way. Too much of a good thing can lead to clogged pores.
  • Don't forget to moisturize after showering. Put moisturizers on while your skin is wet, or moist, to help lock in that moisture.
  • Don't forget to exfoliate. Moisturizers, when used often, can actually prevent the skin from sloughing off dead layers.
