How to Find Parts for a Rat Rod

OK, hot rodder, you've raced that rat rod around enough times. Now you need to replace some of its parts. Finding places that sell rat rod parts seems difficult at first, but it's not as hard as it sounds. Make a few phone calls, visit some junkyards and call on some fellow hot rodders, and you'll be back in the race before you know it.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide which part or parts you need to replace. Make sure the old part is not salvageable before searching for a new one. Get a second opinion and have a mechanic check the car if you're not sure which parts need replacement.

    • 2

Visit a local used car parts dealers or junkyards. Remember that one man's trash is another rat rodder's treasure!

    • 3

Scour online auction sites such as eBay. There is bound to be a seller who has exactly what you need.

    • 4

Search specific hot rod websites, such as the Hot Rod Parts Classifieds website. There are literally hundreds of hot rod sites that offer advice and parts.

    • 5

Advertise. Place an ad in the "Wanted to Buy" section of the classifieds in your local paper or on a classifieds website such as Craigslist and explain exactly what you are looking for.

    • 6

Network by joining a hot rod club. Longtime hot rodders can offer advice and answer your questions, and they will certainly know a thing or two when it comes to finding parts as well.
