Photographs and pictures become more profound or beautiful by surrounding them with a frame. Make your photos stand out and make a special statement by adding beautiful frames using Fireworks. Any kind of frame is possible and is only influenced by your imagination and creativity.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer loaded with Macromedia's Fireworks
  • Picture file to be framed on the computer

Step1
Begin by opening Fireworks on your computer. Choose to Create a new file.
Step2
Make the document 300 by 300. Click the OK button.
Step3
Choose the Rectangle tool and use it to draw a rectangle that extends from one corner to the opposite corner, enclosing the whole white space just to the edge. To draw a rectangle you should position the cursor at the place where you want to start the rectangle and hold down the right mouse button. While holding it, move the mouse until the rectangle reaches the point that you want to end and release the mouse button.
Step4
Prepare the look of your frame. There are three sections in the Properties window that need to be modified. Select the Color Properties and modify the pull down boxes and the following values: Solid drop down box, choose Pattern>Blue Wave; Texture Drop down box, choose Texture>Grass; Texture Amount box, select 10.
Step5
Set the values in the Stroke Properties as follows: Drop down box that reads None, change to Basic>Soft Line. The number box just preceding the drop down box, choose 1. Click on the color box and select #0072AE. You can type this value in the upper box of the color window and press the Enter key.
Step6
Add an Effect to the look of the frame. Choose Effects>Bevel and Emboss>Inner Bevel. After selecting this a box will appear where you need to set the following characteristics: Bevel Edge, Smooth; Width, 12; Contrast, 90; Softness, 5; Angle, 120; Button Preset, Raised. After making these changes, click outside the box to close it.
Step7
Import the picture to be surrounded by this frame. Select File>Import and select the file by navigating to it using the explorer window that appears. Select Open. Click an area outside the frame that was just made. A box will appear outlined on the gray region of the workspace. Resize the image if needed to fit inside the blue frame by using the scale tool.
Step8
Move the resized picture by dragging it with the mouse over the blue frame and center it within the frame.
Step9
Put the finishing touches on your frame by once more selecting the Effects Properties and selecting Bevel and Emboss>Inset Emboss. Modify the fields as shown below: Width, 4; Contrast, 80; Softness, 4; Angle, 120. Once more click outside the box to close it.
Step10
Save your work by choosing File>Save As. Give the new picture with Frame a name and note where it is saved so that you can find it later.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you make mistakes along the way, remember that under the Edit menu the first choice is Undo. You can use this command to step back through all the work you have done, then continue on the creation process for your frame.
  • These steps are based on the MX version of Fireworks. The exact details of the steps may vary if you use a different version.
