Instructions

1
Get into top shape before you head off for boot camp so you'll be ready for the physical demands. Focus on running and push ups; you'll be doing lots of both.
-
2
Practice making a bed military style: sheets taut and wrinkle free, "hospital corners," blanket tucked in under the mattress. A quarter will bounce on a properly made bed.
-
-
3
Memorize the rank structure for officers as well as enlisted personnel of the USCG. Read as much as you can about Coast Guard history and tradition. Memorize the "11 General Orders for a Sentry." You'll have less to learn at boot camp.
-
4
Shortly before you leave for boot camp, get a conservative haircut and shave. True, you'll get a haircut during intake.
-
5
Set up a checking account for direct deposit for your payroll and get an ATM card. You won't have time to do this on base before your first pay. Take all your banking information with you.
-
6
Take what is on the list your recruiter gives you. Anything not on the list will be confiscated.
-
7
Bring the right attitude.
