Step 1
Buy quality cosmetics. These look better and last longer because you'll need to use less of them. You'll pay more, but you'll be happier. Go to the cosmetics counter at a clothing store and ask for help.
-
Step 2
Choose the right shade of foundation. It must exactly match your skin tone or people will wonder why your face doesn't match your ears or your neck. Only use foundation labeled "sheer" or "wash."
-
Step 3
Buy make-up brushes and blending sponges to apply your cosmetics. Using these tools instead of your fingers helps your make-up last longer both on your face and in the container. Brushes and sponges can be purchased anywhere.
-
Step 1
Always start with a face that's been moisturized. This includes keeping balm on your lips to keep them from drying out.
-
Step 2
Shape your eyebrows. Nothing makes a make-up job look better than well-groomed brows.
-
Step 3
Put concealer under your eyes and blend in. If you have "parentheses," deep wrinkles running from your nostrils down past the corners of your mouth, add some concealer near your nostrils to make the wrinkles seem less pronounced.
-
Step 4
Apply your foundation thinly. Use a cosmetic sponge to blend it. Remember to include the eyelids and to blend past the jawbone. However, don't put foundation on your neck because it will get onto your clothes and jewelry.
-
Step 5
Apply powder. Use a large, soft brush and lightly brush the entire face just enough to remove the sheen. Add a little extra under your eyes to catch any fallout from your eye make-up.
-
Step 6
Apply powder eye shadow from the edge of the upper lid to just past the bone. Blend it so it fades away before it reaches your brow and dust with powder. The most natural look comes from shades that have a little pink in them.
-
Step 7
Curl your lashes and apply mascara. Use the tip of the wand to add a tiny bit of color to the ends of your bottom lashes where the color has faded. Don't try to lengthen or thicken bottom lashes. For top lashes, apply mascara more thickly. Only apply one coat for the most natural look.
-
Step 8
Comb your eyebrows. If any areas are thin, use an eyebrow pencil to fill them in before using the brush. Add a little gel to your brows so the hairs will stay in place.
-
Step 9
Gently brush away the extra powder under your eyes.
-
Step 10
Apply blush if desired. (If you don't use blush, your eyes will stand out.) Use a soft brush to apply blush to the apples of the cheeks, being careful not to add too much color. Blend with a little more powder.
-
Step 11
Add lip color with a brush. For daytime, choose a shade that isn't far from your natural lip color. Don't bother with a lip pencil. Dust your lips with powder to set, then apply a small amount of gloss in the center of the bottom lip only.
-
Step 12
Brush your face. Using a large soft brush, gently brush your entire face. If you want a dewy look, don't add powder to the brush.
