Heartburn can be very uncomfortable and frustrating. You may even have to give up enjoying certain foods that you love. Making some simple lifestyle and diet changes can help to alleviate the symptoms of heartburn and help you to be free from this discomfort.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat small meals often instead of one big meal. Smaller meals are easier on the stomach and digest faster.

    • 2

Avoid foods that are fatty, spicy or greasy. If you have to eat them, eat in moderation. Citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, chocolate and onions are foods that may trigger heartburn as well.

    • 3

Eat your meals slowly and savor every bite. You will be less likely to overeat and incur indigestion.

    • 4

Avoid lying down after a meal. Sit upright if you have to rest after a meal, or take a slow walk.

    • 5

Avoid eating late, preferably not after 8pm.

    • 6

Cut down on alcohol and tobacco if you are consuming them.

    • 7

Elevate the head side of your bed so you are not laying down flat. Merely using a pillow to prop up your head may not be a good idea.

    • 8

Wear loose fitting clothes for comfort. Avoid tight fitting clothing, especially around the waist.

    • 9

Lose some weight if you are overweight.

    • 10

Avoid exercising after a meal. If you must eat, do so 2 to 3 hours prior to exercising.

    • 11

Drink more water and drink slowly.
