How to Get Ideas for a Wedding Song

Weddings are huge events. The music is an important part of the day. You must choose songs for the reception and possibly the ceremony--at least the two most important songs, the one you'll walk down the aisle to and the first dance. With so many songs to choose from, you can use these steps as a starting point to get ideas for your selections.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

List the different events for which you need song ideas. Examples are walking down the aisle, the bride and groom's first dance, the father/daughter dance and the mother/son dance.

  2. Step 2

Ask friends what songs they have heard at other weddings and make a note of which ones you like. You can often here sample music online or can rent CD's with those songs from your local library.

  3. Step 3

Meet with the DJ you have selected and ask for suggestions. They will usually have many on hand for you to listen to.

  4. Step 4

Visit the sites mentioned in this article for more ideas. Look at the songs listed for all types of dances because one that they suggest as a first dance may instead be one that you would choose for your wedding party dance.

  5. Step 5

Choose a song that you like--not one that will make your guests happy. Pick something that will have meaning to you on your special day.

Tips & Warnings
  • Continue looking until you find a song that fits. Take your time to make sure you are happy with your selections.
  • Some songs are overplayed at weddings. Try to be unique unless one of those songs really sounds like the best choice for you.
