Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how much you are going to spend on sports memorabilia and what type of memorabilia you are going to acquire. There are varying types of sports memorabilia available on the market place. Get a general idea of how much you want to spend and what it is you want to collect.

  2. Step 2

Join a sports memorabilia message board. A good one to join is Sportscardforum.com. At Sportscardforum.com, you can keep abreast of the latest industry news. It's also a great way to meet fellow enthusiasts and even sports memorabilia dealers in your area.

  3. Step 3

Purchase a price guide. You'll need a price guide to help you figure out how much each item of sports memorabilia is worth. The best price guides can be found at Beckett.com. Be sure you purchase a price guide that corresponds with the type of sports memorabilia that you are interested in collecting.

  4. Step 4

Begin buying memorabilia by starting out with a few relatively inexpensive items for your collection. You can purchase memorabilia at card shops, trade shows or online at auction sites like ebay.com.

  5. Step 5

Display your memorabilia in a safe, dry location in your home. If you are collecting sports cards, keep them in their jackets. The value of sports memorabilia goes down considerably if the item gets damaged.

  6. Step 6

Catalog your sports memorabilia collection. It's important to keep track of your inventory, and the easiest way to do so is to use computer software built for this exact purpose. Mwpsoftware.com has software developed with sports memorabilia collectors in mind.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to check a pricing guide for the value of anything you buy before you finalize the purchase.

on 1/25/2008 I alwasy buy my sports memorabilia from Empire Memorabilia. They sell custom framed autographs and they offer custom framing on my collectibles. Great prices and outstanding service.

on 10/8/2007 SportsCardForum isn't even close to the best place to get anything related to sports. Beckett.com would be the best place for sports cards. Memorabilia would be best from a site that specialized in it
