From Quick Guide: Pro Sports
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take a drive and look at the area within a 10 mile radius of where you live or work. Do you see sports clubs around? More than likely you will see many unless you live in a rural area. If that's the case, broaden your search to include at least one large metropolitan area.

  2. Step 2

Check out those pro sports clubs that seem interesting to you. See if they have the features you need (exercise machines, weightlifting, swimming and child care to name a few).

  3. Step 3

Use the trusty telephone directory and a good internet search engine to find pro sports clubs in your area. With the phone directory, just look in the yellow pages under exercise, sports clubs or fitness centers. Use the same categories in your search engine for an internet search. Google will bring over five million links to these facilities when queried.

  4. Step 4

Select about three or four that interest you and visit if possible. They encourage people to visit, but they will try to sell you a membership before you get out the door. So, stand your ground and don't let salespeople make you do anything you don't want to do.

  5. Step 5

Make note of the features each has and decide which pro sports club fits your needs best.

  6. Step 6

Sign the contract (yes, there will be one). Be aware of what you are signing and that it should not tie up resources and/or time that you do not need to spend.

  7. Step 7

Start enjoying your new pro sports club membership.

Tips & Warnings
  • There could be room for negotiations in the contract process. It never hurts to ask.
  • Watch out for salesmen—they have to make their quota on memberships they sell.
