Wing Chun is one of the most popular martial arts practiced today. A quick search on the Internet turns up hundreds of schools in every part of the United States and over fifty countries. Though instruction is built on simple techniques that anybody can learn, mastering the art of Wing Chun requires constant practice. Here are some things to consider when choosing a school.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Choose a school close enough to attend two to three days a week. Though you may eventually decide that you want to attend a different Wing Chun class, it is important that you begin your commitment with steady practice. If you choose a location that is too far away, you may find that you simply do not have the time to practice and commute.
Step2
Check the school's schedule of classes. Most Wing Chun schools charge a monthly membership fee. In return, members can attend classes at their level on a drop-in basis. Find out what times would be available to you. If you can schedule your other commitments around practice times, you will get the most out of your membership.
Step3
Attend a free class and get to know the school. Most Wing Chun schools offer a free class before asking students to commit to a membership. Each school has a unique culture. Some are very formal and some less so. Make sure you are comfortable with the environment and the instructor. Wing Chun encourages students to question the purpose of the techniques they are learning. Therefore, it is especially important that you feel comfortable with your instructor.
Step4
Try not to sign a long term contract if you can avoid it. There is nothing wrong with a school that asks you to sign a contract, per se. But before committing to study for an extended period of time, you want to make sure you are going to make the most of it.
