Wakeboarding is a fun and fascinating sport to watch. It is even more enjoyable when participating. Face it, though. Not everyone wants to learn about this fabulous sport, with a group of spectators at the ready to watch every false start, misstep, and fall along the way. For many people, learning from videos is a great way to get the basics of the sport, as well as a few more advanced moves in time. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Watch a beginner or introduction to wakeboarding video first. While watching, pay close attention to the instructions and body language of the experts. Learn by watching their moves.
Step2
Re-watch the beginner film. Take notes this time about body positions and special instructions, tips and/or warnings issued by the instructor.
Step3
Watch the video once again. This time have the wakeboard in hand and attempt some of the basic steps in front of the television. Learn by putting these moves into practice.
Step4
Perform the moves from the written instructions in front of a full length mirror. Watch the video closely to insure that the moves being performed match those of the expert examples.
Step5
Once basic moves have been mastered as much as possible through television instruction, it is time to move on to more advanced instructional materials. There are films and books that address various stages of instruction and skill. Keep learning and adding new moves, steps, and stunts to your repertoire until comfortable putting these new skills into practice.
Step6
Practice the moves learned in the video on a skateboard, surfboard or snowboard, according to personal preference and seasonal availability.
Step7
Get out there on the water and put these new moves, skills and techniques into practice. More importantly; have fun.

Tips & Warnings

  • When wakeboarding, always wear a life vest and have a diver available in case of an accident. Safety is of primary importance.
