Things You'll Need:
- Skateboard
- Protective gear
- Half pipe
-
Step 1
Check the local skate parks. One thing about skaters is that they are often willing to offer something back to others who have a sincere desire to learn. Group lessons are often offered a couple of nights each week at some of the larger skate parks across the country. Many of these lessons are very reasonably priced.
-
Step 2
Watch other skateboarders. There are skaters that will take skateboarding protégés under their wing, by teaching them a few stunts and tricks on the half pipe, upon which they can build other tricks.
-
Step 3
Sign up for private lessons. Most pro shops that sell skating equipment, will also have a list of "pros" who are willing to teach lessons for a fee. Ask for recommendations, in order to find an instructor who really knows her stuff.
-
Step 4
Consider attending a skateboarding camp. Most of these camps have at least one outstanding half pipe, and teach everything from the basics to advanced lessons. They address specific strengths and weaknesses along the way. This is intense and effective method when it is time for lessons.
-
Step 5
Watch videos. This should be a last resort and limited to only situations in which there are no other learning opportunities around. Watching video lessons can help with some of the basic maneuvers but should be approached with great care.
