Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Ski Bike
- Helmet
- Snowboarding boots
- Water-resistant outerwear
- Back protection
Step1
Take a moment to look around and be aware of the other skiers before heading down a trail. Let people know when you are approaching from behind them. As you pass them on your way downhill, be sure to leave plenty of room between the two of you.
Step2
Make sure you maintain control of your speed at all times. Reckless skibiking can endanger others, so always keep in mind the terrain, trail and traffic. To stop yourself, just lean sideways and dig your snowbike's edges into the snow, much like you would with skis or a snowboard. Because of their unique design, skibobs tend to be more stable, which is great because that means snow BMXers tend to be more balanced then skiers and snowboarders. This should help you when trying to keep a steady speed.
Step3
Move off to the side as quickly as possible after a spill. Don't stay where people can't see you. If for some reason you can't get back on your snow BMX bike and are forced to hike your bike up or downhill by foot, do so on the edge of the trail away from the traffic.
Step4
Stop and help if you witness a spill on the slopes (or accidentally cause one). In the case of a really bad pileup, any witnesses and victims should exchange information.
Step5
Don't forget to pay attention to all signs and trail markings. Missing one can literally lead you down the wrong path and into a dangerous situation. Be sure to obey all markings when using your skibike so that mountain resorts won't mind having the snow BMXers come back to enjoy the trails year after year!
