Bungee jumping gained popularity in the 1990s, along with a handful of other extreme sports. Now bungee jumping companies offer lessons worldwide, from the rural U.S. to foreign locales like Bulgaria. In the mid-1990s, cable network ESPN introduced the Extreme Games, which showcased extreme stars competing in sports like BMX, skateboarding and bungee jumping. Bungee jumping competitions continue to draw many spectators over the world today.

From Quick Guide: Bungee Jumping
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate the bungee jumping competitions. Contact site like Extreme games or focal bungee or extreme sports tour company. Many competitions take place in California and the rural Midwest, but other sites host them, too.

  2. Step 2

Ask your bungee tour company or check ESPN.com's schedule for times and locations. Bungee jumping has been popular for awhile, but it still takes a bit of research to find a competition.

  3. Step 3

Travel to the location. Obviously, since bungee jumping involves bridges, towers, or cliffs in rural or exotic locations, you'll need more than a bus ticket downtown to attend the events.

  4. Step 4

Get out your binoculars or find a safe perch to watch the competition. A bungee jumper bolting from a tower certainly leaves a wide arc, and you want to see more than a dot in the distance and follow the jump all the way through.

  5. Step 5

Know a little about the contestants and how they plan to jump. There are occasional freestyle competitions which allow participants to jump using bicycles or other equipment.

  6. Step 6

Bring your Camcorder or digital camera to record the event. Bungee jumping stunts and competitions are extraordinary sights, and you will want a recording or picture that says "I was there."
