Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- White dress
- Shoes
- Veil
- Tights or socks
Step1
Decide if you have a family dress that you would like your daughter to wear. Many people have a tradition of keeping their First Communion dresses in the family. Remember if you have an heirloom dress, it may not still be bright white. You should look for a veil in off-white or better yet bring the dress with you in order to match it.
Step2
Think about how much money you want to spend on the dress. The cost may dictate where you go to look for a dress. Some Christian specialty stores and outlet department stores such as Marshall's will have cheaper dresses than boutiques.
Step3
Learn about different styles before buying. First Communion dresses can be tea length or long formal gowns. Often the tea length dresses do not have as much beading or lace as full length gowns. You should also decide if you want a short sleeve or sleeveless dress.
Step4
Check websites such as the Perfect Pear Children's Boutique and First Communions in order to see the latest styles and prices. If you decide to purchase the dress over the Internet, leave yourself at least 4 weeks between the expected delivery date and the First Communion date.
Step5
Go to Christian specialty stores, department stores and children's dress shops to find a dress. Let your daughter try on the dresses. Pick one that you both like. You can try and steer her towards a particular dress, but remember it is her day.
Step6
Find all accessories you need to go with the dress. All whites are not the same and you don't want a bright white veil and an off-white dress, the same goes for shoes, tights and gloves if you need them. Purchase a white sweater or shawl as well. You may or not need it for the First Communion but it is good to be ready for cooler weather and is always a nice item for her wardrobe.
