The Woody is the classic beach vehicle in the minds and hearts of many. In fact, it's the association with sand and surf that make woodies such temptations when it comes time to actually pimp out a ride. There are so many possibilities of modifications for these wood-paneled wagons that the true difficulty is often reining in the imagination. The following steps will help you go about "pimping" a Woody.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Step1
Establish a budget that is reasonable and tolerable for the entire project. This should include the budget for the wagon in addition to the modifications that will be made.
Step2
Set priorities. It is important to have a hierarchy of features that are most important, and those things that can be added, enhanced, or improved over time.
Step3
Select a theme. With this particular type of wagon, the temptation for a surf theme is definitely a motivator for many. This does not mean that this is the only way to pimp a woody. These wagons are perfect for all types of fun and playful themes.
Step4
Create a plan. Most great things begin with a plan, and disaster is sure to ensue without one. Have an overall Woody design in mind before purchasing any parts or making any modifications.
Step5
Use kits whenever possible to save money. The modifications required to truly pimp a ride are not exactly inexpensive. There are many kits that can be purchased for a discounted price that will often help lower the overall costs involved, leaving more money for the important modifications.
Step6
Keep in mind that not everything needs to be done in a day. This is an investment that many would consider long term. Make small modifications along the way, until the desired "pimped-out" results have been achieved all around.
Step7
Have fun. All work and no play makes for a few very dull days. The Woody is a canvas and the process should be as enjoyable as the end result.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check the body carefully for damage that needs repair. It is less costly to make the repairs before modifications than after.
  • Choose lighting carefully. While the goal in this process is for your woody to be noticed, it should not cause accidents by blinding other drivers or interfering with their ability to see the road.
