How to Find an Exotic Car Mechanic

So you need to take your exotic vehicle in for repairs. Ouch! If you've been in an accident, the emotional trauma can be steep. Not to worry. Unless you've totaled her, you have every reason to expect that you will be able to enjoy your luxury purchase for years to come; provided, of course, you choose the right car doctor.

1. Take her to the dealer. If your vehicle is still under warranty or even if it isn't, your dealer will probably have the most knowledgeable exotic car mechanics. Especially when you are finding somebody to service your specialty vehicle, you want an expert who has been specifically trained to do work on your model. Remember, these people want to keep you happy to enjoy your business in the future.
2. Find a mechanic who has worked with your type of car before. Don't give up hope. Mechanics do exist to work on your exotic vehicle, but you'll have to do your research. Just because a mechanic has serviced exotic cars before doesn't mean he has serviced your model. Ask about his history with your specific vehicle.
3. Ask around. If you own an exotic car, chances are you have befriended others who share your passion. Find out who services their cars.
4. Be prepared to travel. Your baby is worth the journey. Special cars require special care, and this has a large convenience cost. If you wanted a car that was easy to take care of, you would have purchased a Honda.
5. Know your vehicle. If for some reason you find yourself in possession of an exotic car but aren't a car buff, take some time to familiarize yourself with the territory. Knowing your car can clear the lines of communication between you and your mechanic. The more you know about your car, the more you will be able to tell how much your mechanic knows about your car.
