From a Dealer
Step1
Decide what you want. Figure out the exotic car you are looking for and the features that you want in the car. While, this can be changed later, it will help your shopping process. Look through your local phone book and contact the dealers that sell exotic cars.
Step2
Check up on the dealer. Call the Better Business Bureau to make sure they are a credible dealer. Also, don't be afraid to ask the dealer for references and talk to other customers.
Step3
Set up an appointment. Be sure to tell them the specific exotic car that you are looking for, so they can have them displayed appropriately for you.
Step4
Do your homework. Before meeting with the dealer learn about the exotic car buying process, as it does not work the same as traditional car dealerships. Often a deposit needs to be paid or you need to be in negotiations before you are able to test-drive the vehicle.
Step5
Think it over. Also, during this time call your insurance agent and get a quote, call your financial adviser and talk about any extra insurance the car may need as a high value asset and do a CarFax report on the vehicle.
Step6
Look over the vehicle thoroughly for any damage or unsavory features before you sign on the dotted line.
From a Private Seller
Step1
Decide on the make and features you want in your exotic car.
Step2
Use only credible sites, such as dupontregistry.com to find vehicles. Always check out the seller and never hand them cash. Pay with a cashier's check and get a receipt.
Step3
Follow the same steps as above. Check the vehicle out thoroughly, be cautious during the negotiation and purchase process and make sure your exotic car is protected as an asset.
