How to Show Off an Antique Car

Of course, you are very proud of your antique car. Of course, you would like to show if off so others can admire it and maybe even envy you a bit. More than that, though, you would love to talk to other antique car lovers who will be interested in knowing how you got the car, how you keep it up, and why it is so special!

1. Put yourself into the right frame of mind by thinking of your vehicle as an "antique automobile" or a "classic" rather than an old car.
2. Acquire license plates that identify your vehicle as an antique. Draw attention to the plates with simple, but elegant, plate holders. An automobile that is twenty-five or more years old is generally considered to be an antique.
3. Keep a coat of high gloss polish on the body at all times. Keep the hubcaps sparkling. Assure that the tires always have the recommended air pressure, and put a tire-finishing coat on them.
4. Take every available opportunity for a pleasant weekend or early evening scenic drive. Wear gloves and a hat that look like the period in which your antique automobile was first produced. Encourage passengers to wear period costumes when possible, too.
5. Choose a route that will take you past businesses, especially those where people may be taking a break for a meal or a rest. Smile and wave if the pedestrians look friendly.
6. Be on the alert for notices of antique car tours, rallies or shows. These events are usually advertised well beforehand in newspaper and on the Internet. They offer an excellent opportunity to show off your "classic" to others who appreciate and love to discuss antique automobiles.

Tips & Warnings

• Whenever your antique car is parked anywhere except in a locked garage, stay close enough to watch all the admiring spectators. You will enjoy answering their questions, and even possibly letting them honk the horn, but stay close enough to ensure the total safety of your classic.
