Buying a new in-dash satellite radio is exciting. Not all purchases come with installation included, and many of us don't want to pay extra just for installation. So here are some general tips about installing your new satellite radio, so make sure your other radio has already been taken out.

From Quick Guide: Satellite Radio
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Attach any components that were inside of the box.

  2. Step 2

Insert the 12-volt adaptor into your cigarette lighter, and then place the antenna on the roof of your car.

  3. Step 3

Turn on your car and the satellite radio and plug in the cassette audio adaptor or other audio plug, into the car's cassette deck. If your car doesn't have one, find an FM frequency that is open, then tune the radio and the car's FM radio frequency.

  4. Step 4

Check to make sure that the system is working by turning the satellite radio to channel 1. If you are hearing static, it is probably because you used the modulator feature. So change to a hard wired FM modulator configuration.

  5. Step 5

Unhook the radio, once you get it working.

  6. Step 6

Locate a hard and flat surface to place the radio. Your system should come with a mount. If not, then it should be able to fit into the radio slot. There are three kinds of mounts, a flat mount, vent mount or a swivel mount.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you don't mount the satellite radio in the way of airbags, controls or anywhere it would block your view.
