How to Find a Suzuki Teacher
The Suzuki method of music instruction is a great way to introduce young students to any musical instrument, most often violin and piano. Yet unlike a traditional piano or instrumental teacher, a Suzuki method teacher may be a little more difficult to find.

1
Search the Suzuki Association of the Americas website or the Suzuki Teachers International Directory to begin a list of potential Suzuki method instructors in your area. These are not all the Suzuki teachers in your area, just those who have registered on these sites.
-
2
Contact a local music store to find the names of any local teachers who often purchase Suzuki method music books. Often times the music stores are familiar with teachers who teach Suzuki method as well as a more traditional method.
-
-
3
Call local Montessori schools to see if they can refer a Suzuki teacher. Since the philosophies of these two methods are similar, Montessori schools will often offer Suzuki lessons through the Montessori school.
-
4
Contact the Suzuki teachers you have found and verify the instrument that they instruct, if they are taking new students and set up a time to meet, if that would be the appropriate next step.
-
5
Ask for references of a current and a past student.
-
6
Discuss the teacher's expectations, the cost, the make-up policy, and any other questions that you feel are pertinent.
