Step 1
Head to Post Alley in downtown Seattle if you are with a large group. Post Alley runs parallel to Pike Place Market and houses a variety of restaurants and bars that appeal to almost anyone. Get dinner at the Pink Door (if you're lucky you may even catch the burlesque show) and follow up with drinks at Alibi Room.
-
Step 2
Grab your friends and do a pub crawl through Seattle's up and coming hot spots like Columbia City or Georgetown. These neighborhoods used to be working class hubs given their proximity to the former Boeing headquarters, but have recently experienced an urban revival thanks to an influx of young professionals. Many of the bars and restaurants along Rainier Avenue feature live music on weekends and brew their own tasty beer to help you enjoy it.
-
Step 3
Get your ball gown or tuxedo out and head to the opera. McCaw Hall is a state of the art facility that never disappoints both visually and acoustically. Tickets might be pricey, but the architecture alone is worth the trip.
-
Step 4
Make it a girls or boys night out in Belltown. The bars and clubs on First Avenue just north of downtown are always thumping to the latest club hits and the party doesn't stop until well into the morning hours.
Break out the shiny shirts and high heels if you want to fit in with the eye candy. -
Step 5
Experience some of the finest jazz available with a visit to Jazz Alley or Tula's. From a good part of the 20th century, Seattle was home to some of the finest jazz musicians in the world and the tradition still continues today. No need to check a schedule--both of these clubs showcase ensembles that are sure to impress even the most discerning fan but whichever one you choose, book a reservation as early as possible.
-
Step 6
Get a culture fix at one of Seattle's many theaters and improv venues. Seattle enjoys a burgeoning theater scene, which includes playhouses ranging from Tony award nominees (Intiman Theater) to fringe favorites (Theater Schmeater). If improv is your thing, head up to the University District and catch a weekend show by Jet City--you may even end up on stage!
-
Step 7
Spend a quality evening with your family at the city's most popular tourist attraction, Seattle Center. Take a ride to the top of the Space Needle for a view of the nighttime city lights or take the kids on one of the carnival rides that are clustered in front the Experience Music Project. If you're lucky enough to be there during Labor Day Weekend, check out the Bumbershoot Music Festival--three days of nonstop music, art and movies from some of the world's top visionaries that runs well into the evening hours.
