Get more action out of baseball season by creating your own fantasy baseball team. You can choose the best players to be on your team and compete with your friends or other players around the world right from home. Playing fantasy baseball is easy; just follow these simple steps to get on your way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Join a public league or create your own private league for you and your friends. Free leagues like the ones at sports.yahoo.com are great for beginners. Websites such as mlb.com and CBSsportsline.com allow you to create your own league and help you manage the rules and scoring for a fee.
Step2
Research players and teams before the beginning of the season to learn which ones are forecasted to be the best. There are many resources including websites and magazines that give detailed statistics and information on players and teams.
Step3
Draft your fantasy team before the season starts. Each league operates according to specific guidelines and has their own set of rules. Choose players for each position as well as backups from any MLB team. Obviously, you will want to choose the best players available, though there will be chances for trades and pick-ups.
Step4
Choose your starting lineup each week based on what team in your league you're playing against. Consider real-life opponents your players are facing each week to determine who should start. Most leagues have a deadline for when this must be completed each week.
Step5
Score points each week based on the predetermined scoring system of your league. Each week you will play against one other person on your league; the player who scores the most points wins that game. At the end of the league season the top scoring league team wins.

on 8/11/2007 This was not helpful. Although I'm experienced with fantasy baseball and other sports, someone who has only heard of fantasy sports online would do better reading Yahoo's help file, or just setting up a league on their own. This article goes into nothing about variations on leagues or how scoring works.
