How to Find Road Trip Games

Road trips are a great way to see the country up close and personal. Games keep every one in the vehicle entertained between destinations. Find plenty of games before the trip so you have a number of ways to pass the time.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Think about the passenger's interests. Find games that incorporate their likes, not their dislikes. If a child loves to sing, have a karaoke contest. If you have a child who likes to draw, bring a pad of paper for a game of Pictionary. For an older crowd, use the questions from a box of Trivial Pursuit and have your own roving game show.
Step2
Check local department or toy stores for travel versions of board games. Many popular board games have mini versions perfect for taking on the road. While there, look for card games or other toys suitable for small spaces.
Step3
Take crayons, coloring books and activity pads on your trip. These keep children occupied when they become bored of the other games. These also keep the kids occupied when you need a break from being the activity director.
Step4
Visit your local bookstore and look for a book about travel games. Scan through the book to make sure the games are fun, easy and age-appropriate. Avoid games that take a long time to finish unless your passengers have a long attention span and your road trip is long enough to finish the game.
Step5
Turn on the radio and play name that tune. If you have a CD player, pick up a karaoke CD. Use a hairbrush or a water bottle for a microphone and hold your own version of American Idol in the car.
Step6
Make a list of all the things that you need for the games. Pack all needed items into a bag and keep all of the supplies together. Call it your bag of tricks if you want to.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep the games simple and allow people to take breaks from the games. Part of the fun of a road trip is enjoying the scenery. Let the passengers enjoy the view and engage them in conversation about what they see.
