How to Dress Like an Angel

If you feel angelic, then an angel costume might be just the thing for you or your child at Halloween. It's not difficult to dress like an angel. Behaving like an angel is much harder, but you can look the part by combining a selection of affordable items. Look around the home to see what you have already or visit a thrift shop to keep the costume budget under control.

Things You'll Need

• White dress
• Hangers
• Stockings
• Glue
• Glitter
• Gold ribbon or rope
• Headband
• Foil or gold paper

Instructions

1. Find a white dress to serve as a robe. You may not want to use your wedding dress, but any white dress will do. Girls often have white party dresses which are suitable for making an angel costume. For best results, use a floor length dress.

2. Take two wire hangers and twist the tops together so that they form the shape of wings. You may also make the wings out of cardboard using a free pattern available on the internet.

3. Stretch the stockings over the wire frame to complete the angel's wings. Dab or spray glue onto the wings. Cover them with gold or silver glitter then wait for them to dry. Sew them onto the back of the dress.

4. Cut the gold ribbon or rope to form a belt for you Halloween angel costume. Make sure it is long enough so that there's some ribbon left over to hang down the length of the robe.

5. Wrap the headband in foil or gold paper. Every Halloween angel needs a halo, and this is yours.

6. Put on the winged robe, belt and headband. You are now dressed like an angel and are all set for the Halloween holiday or any costume party.

Tips & Warnings

• You can also make a robe from an old white sheet, bleached until it sparkles. A white sweat suit can also make a good angel costume when combined with a white tutu.

• Ready-made wings are available from many costume shops.

• Instead of covering the wings with glitter, consider putting a border of glitter instead.

• A Christmas star garland also makes a great halo for an angel.
