How to Dress Like a Bumble Bee

There are plenty of reasons why you would want to dress like a bumble bee. It's fun to buzz around a Halloween party in a stripy yellow and black costume, waving your antennas. And it's easy to make. In fact, you may already have some of the materials you need at home. You will be collecting pollen and sipping nectar in no time at all.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Sweatshirt
• Black felt
• Scissors
• Fabric glue
• Headband
• Black pipe cleaners
• Black stockings
• Black shoes or sneakers
• Face paint

1. Find a sweatshirt or fleece with a hood. Ideally, the sweatshirt should be bright yellow. This is the head and body of your bee costume. If you are using a sweatshirt, turn it inside out for a softer look.

2. Cut some black felt into long strips. The strips should be long enough to go around your torso. These will be the stripes for the Halloween bumble bee costume.

3. Glue the strips of felt to the sweatshirt making sure to leave yellow gaps of the same width.

4. Create two wings from the black felt and attach them to the back of the sweatshirt. This will complete the stripy bumble bee body.

5. Attach two black pipe cleaners to the headband, a few inches apart. These are the antennas.

6. Put on the stripy bumble bee sweatshirt and the antenna. The top part of your Halloween costume is ready.

7. Borrow or buy some black stockings. These are the bee's legs. Finish off the legs by putting on a pair of black shoes or sneakers.

8. Paint black and yellow stripes onto your face with face paint. You now have the perfect bumble bee costume for Halloween or any other party occasion.

Tips & Warnings

• If you can get a yellow and black striped sweatshirt or fleece, then this will save on some of the bumble bee costume preparation time.
• If you can't find a yellow fleece or sweatshirt, get a pale one and use yellow fabric dye to get the right color.
• You can also sew the felt strips onto the sweatshirt or fleece as an alternative to gluing.
• A piece of elastic is a good alternative to a headband. Make sure it can fit around your head.
• Avoid getting face paint in your eyes.
