If you are addicted to drugs, getting help for your drug addiction is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. There are many avenues you can venture to get help and overcome your addiction. The toughest part is admitting you have a problem and getting the ball rolling toward the road to recovery.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Share your concerns with your family and trusted friends. An addiction to drugs isn't something you should be ashamed of or try to hide. Be honest to those close to you. Let them know you have a drug addiction problem and that you are going to start actively seeking help to recover. With the support of your family and trusted friends, it'll make your whole treatment process easier.
Step2
Use Therapistlocator.net to find a therapist in your area. Set up an appointment, and meet with the therapist to explain in detail your drug addiction. Be totally honest and give as much background as you can. Your therapist may recommend that you go to a drug addiction treatment center. Even if you do decide to attend a treatment center, you should continue to see your therapist as well if at all possible.
Step3
Visit Drug-addiction.com to find a drug treatment center. You can browse their listings online or call their toll-free number at (888) 287-6189. They can give you drug treatment information at absolutely no cost to you. You can also find more information on their website concerning drug use and the dangers associated with it.
Step4
Remain dedicated to overcoming your addiction. There is help available for a drug addiction, but you have to be a willing participant. Whether you decide to use a therapist, a drug treatment center or both, you need to give your maximum effort to succeed. Keep all your appointments and realize that recovery is a lifelong process.

on 2/10/2008 WOW...this is just and advertisement and NOT an article. As a recovering alcoholic and addict I am more than horrified that there isn't any mention of getting help at AA/NA. Recovery has been the new "chic celebrity" fashion. This is just nonsense. Recovery is hard work that requires acceptance, surrendering, and the support of others in recovery. No one gets the monkey off their back alone.
