Summer is the perfect time to explore new horizons. If you are interested in learning about other cultures, or if you are interested in augmenting your domestic college education with an international collegiate experience then you need to consider summer internships abroad.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Official college transcripts
  • Desire to learn more about other cultures
  • Passport

Step1
Identify several companies that offer summer internships abroad. A few of the most well known study abroad companies and programs include the Scholar Ship, Global Learning Semesters and the Aegean Center for Fine Arts.
Step2
Review the summer internships abroad programs that each company offers. Pay attention to their locations, area of study, duration, cost and prerequisites.
Step3
Select a program that you are interested in and create a check list of prerequisites that you need to meet. Run down this list and highlight requirements that you still need to meet.
Step4
Take steps to complete all the prerequisites that your selected program has. For example you may need to take several courses at your college to meet the course prerequisites for the summer program, or you may need to improve your English proficiency by working with an English tutor.
Step5
Apply for the summer internships abroad program that you are interested in. The application process will generally include: setting up an online account with the internship company, filling out an application, documenting your academic history and providing the company with a copy of your resume. You may also be required to submit an entrance essay that explains why you are interested in the summer internships and why you want to study abroad.
Step6
Fill out financial aid or financing applications if you need help paying for your internship program. Most companies are going to offer some form of financial aid to their students.
Step7
Complete an interview with the internship company, if required. During your interview you will most likely go over your qualifications and why you think that you are a good candidate for the program.
Step8
Complete any second-round paperwork that is required. Make sure to submit it by the deadline, which is usually 30 days after your conditional acceptance is announced. This second round of paperwork will generally include official copies of your college transcripts, special college level skill test results and possibly personal references.
Step9
Make a deposit to hold your spot. Most companies will require that you make a deposit to hold you spot open. The size of your deposit will depend on the cost of your internship program and the company's policies.
