Stretch marks can be caused by pregnancy, rapid growth or weight gain. Once you have stretch marks there really is no way to repair the skin completely. However, there are a few treatment options that can refine how they look.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Evaluate your stretch marks before you select a treatment method. New stretch marks are going to be pink or red, while older stretch marks are going to be silvery.

  2. Step 2

Consider a stretch mark treatment cream. Stretch marks are not going to magically disappear if you use a cream treatment, but they will soften and fade. When shopping for a stretch mark treatment cream look for collagen, elastin, pro-retinol and anti-oxidants.

  3. Step 3

Consider your surgical options. The only way to permanently remove stretch marks from your body is to have them surgically removed. Even with this process you will still probably have a few remaining stretch marks.

  4. Step 4

Learn more about non-surgical treatment options for stretch marks. Chemexfoliation and Derma-peels are both non-surgical options for reducing the severity of your stretch marks. These treatments will not completely remove your stretch marks but they will soften and fade them.

Tips & Warnings
  • The stretch mark treatment creams that have been rated highly by consumers include: Elastin 3 by Robelyn Labs, AlphaDerm CE by Janson Beckett, Strivectin-SD by Klein Becker and Promaxyl.
  • To avoid developing more stretch marks you need to drink lots of water and reduce the amount of caffeine you consume. Also increase your zinc, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D and protein intake. All of these nutrients promote healthy and elastic skin.
  • Currently there isn't an effective laser treatment for stretch marks.
