Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Eraser
  • Pen
  • Marker
  • Colored pencil
  1. Step 1

Begin with the face. Starting with a circle, add a rounded triangle shape to the bottom of the circle for the chin and cheekbones.

  2. Step 2

Add facial features. Anime characters typically have very large eyes. They are usually oval shaped, and may differ a bit depending on whether the character is male or female, good or evil. The noses are always simplified to a single line, or simply a variation in color. The mouth, too, is usually small and simplified with a line.

  3. Step 3

Draw the figure by beginning with basic shapes until the proportions and posture are correct. Figure drawing is complex, and may require much study and practice before mastering. Anime figures are typically realistic and proportional.

  4. Step 4

Add clothing to the figure. When drawing fabric, pay close attention to the fold and weight of the fabric and the way in which it drapes.

  5. Step 5

Draw hair in the anime style. Hair is never drawn one strand at a time. It is drawn in strands, or clumps. Once basic shape of the hair is made with clumps of hair, add shading between and maybe a few strands for interest.

  6. Step 6

Once the proportions are correct and the shape is satisfying, make the lines permanent with pen or black marker. Finish the picture by adding color, either with markers or colored pencils which work the best.
