Step 1
Make reservations at a campground of your choice. Many campgrounds fill up on summer weekends or during a holiday--and you don't want to drive all the way there and then not have a space. Also, find out what facilities and services are available at the campground because it may make a difference in what you need to pack.
-
Step 2
Gather together your camping essentials. These include your tent, sleeping bags, air mattresses, stove, cooking utensils and lanterns. Make sure that any battery-operated devices have fresh batteries and spares.
-
Step 3
Pack your clothes and toiletries. Make sure that your clothes will be appropriate for the climate where you are camping, and pack a sweatshirt or jacket in case it gets a little cooler than expected at night. Also pack a well-stocked first aid kit, bug repellent and sunscreen.
-
Step 4
Plan out your meals for the duration of your stay. Try to use as much non-perishable foodstuff as possible. The less things you need to keep on ice, the better. Pack all of your food in a lidded, plastic tote or a locking cooler. You don't want the campground raccoons to have a feast at your expense.
-
Step 5
Pack your equipment into your vehicle in the reverse order that you will need it. For example, the first thing that you will do when you get there is set up your tent so pack it in last to make it easy to get out.

Step 6
Enjoy your time in the great outdoors!
