The usual method for monogramming clothing is with a monogram setting on a sewing machine. However, you can achieve the same look without spending a fortune on an expensive piece of equipment by using a stencil and craft paint.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Article of clothing
  • Letter stencil
  • Fabric pen
  • Low-tack adhesive
  • Craft paint in desired color
  • Fabric medium
  • Piece of cardboard
  • Stencil paintbrush
  • Stencil cleaner
  1. Step 1

Choose a stencil with the font type style you want to use for monogramming your clothing.

  2. Step 2

Decide where you want your monogram to be placed on your clothing and mark this location with a fabric pen.

  3. Step 3

Spray low-tack adhesive to the back of the stencil for temporary placement of the stencil on the clothing.

  4. Step 4

Mix two parts of craft paint with one part of fabric medium. This will make the monogram permanent.

  5. Step 5

Place a piece of cardboard underneath the fabric where you will be stenciling your monogram to prevent the paint from bleeding onto your work surface or another piece of fabric you don't want painted.

  6. Step 6

Use a stencil paintbrush to paint the monogram onto the clothing. Start at the edge of the stencil and work inwards. This will keep the paint from getting under the edge of the stencil.

  7. Step 7

Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions for drying time.

  8. Step 8

Remove the stencil from the clothing. Clean the adhesive from the stencil with stencil cleaner.
