Step 1
Understand the rules. The contest requires all photographs to be the sole work of the person submitting them. You may enter as many photographs as you wish. Learn more by reading the official contest pages at About.com (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
View photographs that did well in previous contests. They will give you a very good idea of the level you'll have to reach if you hope to place well. The official contest site contains links to slide shows that allow you to view noteworthy entries from previous years.
-
Step 3
Plan your hoax. You will want to enter the most creative, convincing photo you can muster. When considering what makes a good paranormal photo hoax, bear in mind that the idea is to create verisimilitude. You want the photograph to be as convincing and real as possible. Use suitable locations that add to the mystique and feel of your photograph.
-
Step 4
Use the photographic medium to your advantage. Learn how to employ advanced photography techniques, like double exposures, to make your photographs more chilling and convincing. Read the eHow page on using conventional film cameras to make double exposures (see Resources below).
-
Step 5
Learn by trial and error. Take the time to analyze your photo after your initial attempts, and consider what you can do to make it more convincing. Make adjustments as necessary until you are happy with the final result.
-
Step 6
Email your entries to the administrator of the Paranormal Photo Hoax contest once you have read and agreed to the terms and conditions. The email address for submitting the photograph(s) you want to enter is paranormal@about.com.
