Tips & Warnings
Keep your Windows XP documentation, as well as any packaging that came with the operating system. The code you need to activate your PC is included in the documentation.
Be aware that if you buy your computer through a retailer, like Dell or Hewlett-Packard, the code you need to activate Windows XP is placed on the PC itself, usually on a sticker at the back or bottom of the tower.
Recognize your Windows XP activation key as the 25-digit alphanumeric code included with your system. It appears like this: AB123-AB123-AB123-AB123-AB123.
Do not install pirated copies of Windows XP. Pirated operating systems can be detected by Microsoft and invalidated, preventing you from receiving critical updates. In addition, pirated software can include viruses or spyware capable of compromising your private information and personal security.
