Each year, both young and old Americans are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. While there are treatments to help suppress the effects of ADHD, the cure and the cause of this learning disability still elude researchers. If you raise awareness of ADHD, you might help find a long-term solution for it.

Instructions

    Learn to Raise ADHD Awareness

  1. Step 1

Join the Parent Teacher Association at your child's school. Many educators might not realize that a student's misbehavior in the classroom could be caused by ADHD. If you raise awareness of ADHD symptoms among teachers, they can notify the parents of students who may have the learning disability.

  2. Step 2

Encourage a public school to include learning disability awareness in its health curriculum. If students are taught about ADHD when they are younger, they could be more likely to understand adult ADHD should they develop it later in their lives.

  3. Step 3

Spread ADHD awareness at social gatherings. While it might not be the best topic for some situations, ADHD is something that you should discuss with other parents. Many people might not realize that there is medication to help their children if they are having focus problems at school.

  4. Step 4

Talk about the different ADHD treatments. It's likely that someone you know is taking ADHD medication or giving it to a child. It's important to raise awareness about alternative treatment so that you can help others treat ADHD effectively.

  5. Step 5

Get your friends out spreading awareness of ADHD. It's best to have more people talking about learning disabilities. ADHD is becoming so common in our society that you shouldn't be worried about discussing it.

  6. Step 6

Help organize a citywide ADHD awareness day. Ask different health groups and hospitals to sponsor the event. You could have groups of volunteers handing out awareness flyers and maybe rent out a conference hall to have different guest speakers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your doctor if she has extra ADHD brochures that you could give to friends and family members.
  • Be sure to mention to people that the abuse of ADHD medicine is becoming common among young students. Tell your friends to monitor their children's medication closely.
  • Be sure that your child has an adequate understanding of ADHD if he has it. Many young people might think that having ADHD makes them inferior to other people.
  • Refrain from giving people medical advice about ADHD. It's fine to talk about alternative treatments, but be sure that your friends talk to their doctors before changing their medication.
