Instructions

  1. Run a Basic Blocking Drill

    • 1

Arrange three players in position at the center of the net. One will be the "right side hitter," one the "middle hitter" and the other the "outside hitter."

    • 2

Stand on the opposite side of the court from the players with a bag of volleyballs.

    • 3

Serve one volleyball at a time to the other side of the net. As you serve each ball call out the position (right, middle or outside hitter) who is to block the ball.

    • 4

      Continue for about five minutes.

    • 5

Rotate in new players for each position and repeat.

Run a Drill to Increase Passing Speed

    • 6

Select three players and ask them to lay on the floor of the court. They should be on their stomachs and facing the other side of the court.

    • 7

Stand on the other side of the court with a bag of volleyballs.

    • 8

Serve a ball, and call out the name of the player who must pop up and return the ball.

    Run a Body Positioning Drill

    • 9

Arrange a few players on one side of the net.

    • 10

Hit a ball at the players from the other side of the net.

    • 11

Call out the name of the player you wish to receive as you strike the ball. This player must then position herself under the ball so that the ball bounces between her legs.

    • 12

Instruct the receiving player to return the volleyball back to the bag and then take a seat.

    • 13

Continue until each player has practiced setting up her body position so that she could have returned the ball well.

    Run a Basic Serving Drill

    • 14

Break your players into two teams.

    • 15

Instruct each team to set itself in position on one side of the net.

    • 16

Have one team member serve the ball to the other team. If his serve is out or otherwise improper, he must go to the opposing team's side and lay on the floor.

    • 17

Allow someone from the other team to serve, with the same consequences if she misses.

    • 18

Instruct remaining servers to aim for one of their team members laying on the ground. If a serve hits one of their teammates, that person may return to his team's side.

    • 19

Continue until all players end up on one side of the net. The team standing wins.

Tips & Warnings
