Lewes Folk Rock Festival is a small, two-day music festival held in Lewes, East Sussex, England. The event features singer-songwriters, duos and bands performing diverse genres such as world music, Celtic fusion, Americana and psychedelic folk. The festival is held indoors in an arts centre and takes place every May.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Prepare for a feast. Fresh, home-made Indian food will certainly surpass your regular festival burger and chips. Vegetarians will be happy with the wide, unusual range of vegetarian curries based on traditional Gujarati cooking.
Step2
Expect a sound and music focussed festival. The Lewes All Saints Arts Centre hosts the weekend in its main hall renowned for fabulous acoustics throughout Sussex.
Step3
Travelling to Lewes is straightforward. The venue is a two minute walk from Lewes train station and there are usually trains back to Brighton until midnight on both evenings of the festival.
Step4
Take the train from London Victoria to Brighton, and then catch a connection to Lewes. Coaches are also available for London to Brighton travel, as well as from other major cities throughout the UK.
Step5
Driving to Lewes may be the best option. Park in the main car park near Friar’s Walk, which is free in the evening.
Step6
The Lewes festival is always looking for new performers. If you think you have talent and would like to play, contact the festival organisers via their website.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Lewes festival is small by UK standards. Crowds are likely to respect performers more and drink less, so remember, no heckling!
  • Local people in Brighton and Lewes are environmentally conscious. If you can, take a greener form of transport to the festival.
