Step 1
Choose a school that will provide you with the proper knowledge in becoming an esthetician. You can either choose a school in your local area, or look into programs abroad. If you are looking locally, ask salon managers their advice on which schools are the best ones for this type of career. Visit every school and ask about their esthetician program.
-
Step 2
Research the course of study in the school you have chosen. Many esthetician programs have a variety of subjects to choose from. Find out which ones would be the most beneficial to your career as an esthetician. Examples of some courses might be exfoliation, facial massage and skin analysis.
-
Step 3
Make sure you know how much the cost will be for your program, as well as the extras such as textbook fees and license fees. Some schools do not state exactly what you will be paying up front, so ask at registration or the program advisor.
-
Step 4
Ask the course advisor to tell you about the career opportunities that will be available to you as a licensed esthetician. You might want to work in a spa or a salon in the future, or possibly even start your own esthetician business.
-
Step 5
Use contacts. Now that you have completed your program, start using the contacts that you created while in the program. Ask around for work opportunities to get your career off and running.

on 8/25/2008 Step 2 is completely false. There are no concentrations or specialities when it comes to getting your license. All that comes after you pass you test and you take more advanced courses offered by skin care companies.
