A long car ride can be a grueling task on its own. Add a screaming baby into the picture and you're in for a lot of mental anguish. Fortunately, there are tips and tricks that you can use to entertain your baby on a long trip.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have someone sit next to the car seat if you are traveling with other people. This can be anyone who's willing to help keep your baby entertained, such as a sibling or even yourself. This person can play different games with him and pick up toys that are dropped. Sometimes just having someone to look at is enough to keep a baby happy.

  2. Step 2

Purchase a mirror for the back window if you are on a trip alone with your baby. You can glance in your mirror at good opportunities and make eye contact with her. This can comfort you in knowing she is okay and she'll enjoy seeing you.

  3. Step 3

Bring toys that attach to the car seat. Toys are bound to be dropped and it's not safe for you to pick them up while driving. Whenever you pull over, switch to a new toy. Seeing something new will entertain your baby more than seeing the same thing the entire trip. A kicking mat provides fun for your child, too.

  4. Step 4

Pull over frequently for changing diapers and feeding. It's hard to entertain a child with a dirty diaper or an empty stomach.

  5. Step 5

Bring a CD to entertain your baby on the trip. When you hear her start to get fussy, play a song she enjoys. You don't have to only listen to children's music. Sometimes just hearing new sounds is enough to make a child happy. Try singing a few songs yourself. She will enjoy hearing a familiar voice.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't let your baby eat while you're driving. This can create both a choking hazard and a driving hazard.
