Nothing delights children during the Christmas holidays more than making holiday crafts. This Christmas, let your little craft enthusiasts make a reindeer ornament. Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer's nose will shine brighter than ever when he's made using a light bulb. The ornaments are so cute, grandma is guaranteed to ask for more than one. They also make inexpensive party favors or small gifts for everyone on your Christmas list.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Old light bulb
  • Red pom-pom
  • Paint and paintbrush
  • Glue gun
  • Twigs or brown craft wire
  • Thin, red ribbon
  • Brown felt

Step1
Paint the light bulb dark brown. If you set the light bulb inside an empty toilet tissue roll that has been cut down to about 2 inches, the paint can dry easily without getting all over the table or smearing.
Step2
Paint a small, light brown circle on one side of the light bulb to represent the muzzle area. The screw part of the light bulb is used as the top of the reindeer's head.
Step3
Apply black and white paint to make eyes above the muzzle area and to draw a mouth inside the muzzle. Make sure the light bulb neck, or screw portion, is pointed up as you add the facial features.
Step4
Add the red pom-pom at the very top of the muzzle area to represent Rudolph's red nose.
Step5
Glue the red ribbon onto the back of the reindeer's head near the screw portion of the light bulb to make a hanger.
Step6
Snip off the twigs into an antler shape and glue them onto the back of the reindeer's head. Alternatively, you may use brown craft wire by wrapping one 6 inch section around the screw portion of the light bulb and attaching several smaller sections to the long wire piece to form antlers. Use plenty of glue so the antlers don't dislodge easily.
Step7
Cut the brown felt into two ear shapes approximately 2 inches long and mount them slightly below the antlers on the side of the reindeer's head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wiggly eyes can be glued on in place of painted eyes.
  • Christmas accessories, such as tinsel or greenery, can be added to the reindeer's head to make the ornament more festive.
  • Carefully supervise young children when using a glue gun.
