As budgets become tighter, more and more women are working later into their pregnancies. Women experiencing a healthy and normal pregnancy may choose to work right up until they deliver. If you plan on working during your pregnancy, take steps to ensure your health and your comfort.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Inform your boss of your pregnancy. Early on, your boss should know about your pregnancy in order to allow for possible adjustments to your work routine.

  2. Step 2

Drink plenty of fluids. Continuously drink water throughout your work day. This is good for you and the baby.

  3. Step 3

Take frequent breaks. If you work at a desk, get up and move often. This will help keep your energy level high.

  4. Step 4

Sit in a comfortable chair. Your desk chair should be adjustable with firm cushions. You can put a pillow behind you if it helps your comfort level.

  5. Step 5

Keep your feet elevated. Allowing your feet to remain on a footrest throughout the day will help reduce pregnancy related swelling and lessen discomfort felt in your back.

  6. Step 6

Get enough rest. If you are working during pregnancy, make sure you get adequate rest at night to keep your stress level down.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not continue working against your health care provider's advice. You will be putting the health of yourself and your baby in jeopardy.
  • Do not do any type of work that involves intense physical labor. Any heavy lifting must be avoided.
