How to Make a Driveway Tennis Court

Tennis is a fantastic sport that's not only a lot of fun to play, but also keeps you in shape too! However, with the sports growing popularity, sometimes it's hard to get court time. Tack on the fees for joining a club and you might as well just play at home. Never thought of that? Here's how to build your very own tennis court in your driveway.

Spray paint
Measuring tape
Chalk
Tennis net
Cement

Step1

Measure your driveway. A standard tennis court is 78 feet long and 36 feet wide. Many American driveways can easily accommodate such a space. If you don't quite have the width, you may reduce it to 27 feet. That is the correct width for singles play.

Mark your driveway. Begin marking the outline of your court with chalk. You don't have to physically draw the entire thing, just be sure to use two measuring points so that your lines are straight. After you've marked the outside perimeter of your court, move to the inside lines. Draw a center line at 39 feet. This is the divider over which the net will eventually be placed. Then, on either side of the net, mark out 21 feet. This will serve as the boundary for the service court lines. Finally make a mark in the middle of the width of your court inside the service court lines. This will eventually divide the service court into left and right.

Paint your lines. Using your spray paint (or lime substitute if you don't wish the markings to be permanent) paint the lines using the chalk marks as your guide. In a few short minutes, your tennis court should really start to take shape!

Purchase a net. The final thing you need for your tennis court is a net. Since the rest of the court was so cheap and easy to make, spend a few bucks on this to really impress your friends. You can purchase tennis court nets online or at your local sporting goods store.

Step5

Install the net. Net installation will vary by brand. To keep it sturdy, dig a hole wide and deep enough for the pole on either side of your driveway. Mix cement in your wheel barrel. Place the pole in the hole and cover with cement. Let the pole rest for two days when you don't expect rain and then attach the net. Again each net will have slightly different installation instructions, but this is a common method.

Relax and enjoy. Now you can have a tennis party and have your friends over to play any time you want to. Congratulations, you have built a tennis court right in your driveway!
