Each year, there's a hot toy that parents can't wait to get their hands on. Past examples include Tickle Me Elmo, Webkinz and Nintendo Wii. If there is a sold out toy that you wish to purchase, try these suggestions and be a hero to your child.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Bid on auction sites. This is the method most parents use to find sold out toys. Search eBay and Yahoo! Auctions to find the lowest price for your desired item.
Step2
Look in the newspaper. Many sellers list hard to find toys in classified ads. You may come across these ads especially during the holiday season.
Step3
Sign up for a waiting list. Toy stores, such as Toys "R" Us, offer customers a chance to be notified when new shipments of the toy arrive.
Step4
Check out foreign online retailers. Some toys that sell out in the U.S. may be available overseas.
Step5
Enlist the help of another parent. You can make a deal in which the first person to come across a sold out toy will buy two--one for them, one for you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't pay an exorbitant amount of money for a sold out toy. You should wait it out until you can find it for a more reasonable price.
  • Don't take advantage of other parents by buying a large supply of toys to resell at a high inflated price.
