If you have acne, uneven skin tone or wrinkles, you may consider getting a chemical peel. A chemical peel is a treatment offered by dermatologists, salons and plastic surgeons that removes the outer layers of your skin. It leaves your skin looking fresh and blemish free.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Find a location that performs chemical peels. Check around at local salons and doctor's offices to find a place that performs chemical peels. Compare their prices.
Step2
Choose the right peel for you. There are several different peels that utilize various chemicals in their formulas. A peel that uses alphahydroxy acids will help smooth rough skin and get rid of acne. Peels that use Trichloroacetic acid will not only get rid of blemishes, but also correct uneven skin tone and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Step3
Use Retin-A prior to the peel. This prepares the skin for the chemicals placed on the skin.
Step4
Allow the doctor to place the chemical solution on your face. Your face should be freshly washed and the solution will need to stay on for about 10 minutes. Expect some temporary pain and swelling following the treatment.
Step5
Inquire about the precautions that you must take following a chemical peel. Certain peels require that you avoid sun exposure, and you may have to follow a liquid diet for several days.

Tips & Warnings

  • You must follow any instructions that your doctor's office or salon provides for you following the peel.
  • Don't be surprised if you need several chemical peels a year for your skin to maintain its healthy appearance.
